Exploring the Wisdom of the Body in Couple Therapy
Our couple therapy sessions are rich with emotions and bodily messages. We see our clients’ tears, sighs, body movements, changes in their voice, breathing patterns, clenched hands, downcast eyes, and touches. Often, one partner may claim, “I don’t feel anything,” while their body reveals strong tension.
These physical messages provide essential insights into our clients’ inner experiences and the dynamics of their relationship at that moment. Engaging with these physical messages serves as a shortcut to deeper emotional understanding.
During our two-day training, we will delve into the wisdom of the body and learn how to harness the valuable insights our clients offer us. Often, we can perceive these signals, but we may hesitate to address them due to uncertainty about how to engage safely and effectively.
We will practice observing body language and connecting to our clients’ bodily experiences. We will also focus on how to utilize and process this information to facilitate meaningful transformations during sessions.
It is also crucial to consider what we, as practitioners, communicate through our own bodies. Throughout the training, we will reflect on our bodily experiences and explore how to consciously use these observations to benefit our clients.
By centering our attention on the body, we can foster meaningful interactions between partners that are essential for facilitating change in our couple work.
